It’s been about 6 weeks since my last post about my trip to the Big Island and the work I was invited to do with Madame Pele and Kihawahine.
Since then, a ton has happened, but most of it has been tied to my personal growth and internal musings rather than the work I’ve been doing with deities. I was sort of at a loss as to what to write about, but I realize that the little stuff is just as important as the big stuff — even if they may not necessarily be as interesting to you all.
On the other hand, maybe it’s the little things that make my story much more relatable.
One of the things I’ve been up to is that I’ve been working on my Reiki certifications. Reiki is a type of energy healing using Universal Life Energy. I first learned of Reiki in 2000 from Leah. I became attuned to Reiki Level I in Spring 2002; my Reiki Master was Avaka Draka. And since then, I’ve honed my skills as a Reiki Level I practitioner and supplemented them with my innate energy healing abilities.
In the last year or so, despite the fact that I’ve received messages that healing is not my calling, I’ve also felt pushed to complete my Reiki training. To get attuned to Levels II and III (Master Level). And I felt a bit stuck because I was hung up on wanting to remain within Avaka Draka‘s legacy and tutelage, but I wasn’t going to be able to make it to Mexico to train with her any time soon.
I even reached out to Avaka to see if she knew any Masters out here who she’d recommend. She didn’t. And I decided to let it go for a while, since I’d gone this long (16 years?!) without pursuing further training. I did know of a few local Reiki Masters, but didn’t feel drawn to them at all. That’s when I started to see Facebook ads for various online Reiki courses.
It seemed strange. And also, didn’t really seem like the approach I wanted to take.
But I kept getting served those ads and I kept getting messages from my Spirit Team and finally, during a morning meditation one day, I just asked what they want me to do about all this. The message I received was simple: Get the training online. This isn’t about your Reiki Lineage at this point, but your ability to truly access Universal Life Energy at the Master Level. Get the attunement. Get the certification. And if you’re ever given the opportunity, you can always be reattuned and retrained by Avaka or another Master to whom you feel drawn. But today? Today you need to be attuned.
I signed up for a course on Udemy and am pleased to say that as of today, May 31, 2018, I am officially a Reiki Master.
Thank you to Leah, who originally introduced me to Reiki. Thank you to Avaka, my first Reiki Master who attuned me to Level I so many years ago and remains a friend. Thank you to Melissa Crowhurst, my new Reiki Master. Thank you to those who have allowed me to practice on them; it’s been a growing experience for all of us. And thank you to the Universe for being and allowing me to grow in this capacity.
I too was trained by Melissa and I’m so happy to read your post about on line courses. We obviously believe in the power of distance reiki healing yet there’s a stigma attached to on line courses which baffles me. I’ve been searching for posts on this subject and was so happy to read yours thank you x

Aloha Jennifer. I suspect that part of the stigma about receiving spiritual training (or training of any kind) online is less about the medium and more about whether or not one can legitimize the teacher. Are they really who they say they are? Did they really take the time and attention to attune us as they should? That being said, you’re absolutely correct — we believe in the power of distance reiki healing and so it shouldn’t be so far a stretch as to believe in the power of distance reiki attunement and training.
All that being said, thank you so much for leaving me a comment that this post made you happy. ❤ It makes ME happy for any part of my story to help someone else. Please keep in touch, my reiki sister.
